Baked or Fried...

Syrniki (pronounced "Seer-Nee-Kee") are Russian sweet cheese patties that can be served with sour cream or eaten plain. Syrniki were one of my favorites when I was growing up. If mom told us we were having Syrniki for dinner, it was cause for celebration!
The question was were they baked or fried?
You see, the ingredients were the same for both. However, the last step of the preparation process took something really good and made it great!

Homemade Syrniki (cheese patties)...
- 500 grams of farmer's/dry cottage cheese
- 4 large or 5 medium eggs
- About half a cup of Sugar (depending on your taste, you can add more or less)
- As you mix the above ingredients, add flour, a tablespoon at a time, until the mixture does not stick to your hands when making the patties.

If baking...
Shape patties about 2 inches (5 cm) in diameter and place on parchment paper.
Bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for about 30 to 45 minutes.
Patties should be a light brown when ready.
Allow to cool.
Serve plain or with sour cream.

If frying...
On medium heat, grease skillet with butter or vegetable oil.
Shape patties about 2 inches (5 cm) in diameter and place in skillet.
Fry on one side until golden brown, then flip and fry on the other side.
Remove from skillet.
Allow to cool.
Serve plain or with sour cream

Interesting how the same ingredients can turn out to be very different due to the last process taken to prepare the finished product.

Similarly, within the Harmonized System (HS) of Classification (also known as the Harmonized Tariff Schedule - HTS), "end-use" can have a significant effect on the HS/HTS code to use and the associated duty rate.

Further, is there enough substantiating evidence, accumulated with appropriate and accurate record keeping, that the product conforms to the "end-use" that it has been declared to have?
This is just one of the many examples of how HS/HTS classification is complex and could change with a simple process on how an item is used, how an item is made, and even how the marketing of the item is established.

The ingredients for these wonderful cheese patties are simple yet that final cooking process changes the outcome significantly. Try them both... Which one is really good and which is great?!?
