Remote
Over the last year and a half, we all have had to adjust to the "new normal" and circumstances that have arisen from the worldwide health situation. Adjustments and change are never easy but this pandemic could have derailed compliance teams. Surprisingly, from the feedback that I have received, the situation actually strengthened communication and support with internal and external compliance stakeholders.
Some of the best practices that I have heard about from various compliance teams are:
- Set video conference meetings for internal teams to continue communication
- Accessing files in specific drives so that all team members have visibility to the work being initiated
- Providing written procedures for compliance issues and taking ownership of tasks so that complex compliance items do not fall "between the crack"
These are just some examples of best practices that corporations initiated. There were others that had these best practices up and running far before the pandemic. However, the companies that initiated some extra diligence with compliance during the last 18 months have very much kept on pace with their supply chain instead of losing visibility when all associates needed to switch to a "work from home" environment.
One of my "go to" recipes for traveling is Kani Salad. An easy to make dish that requires about half an hour of prep. time and then can be transported in a cooler for all to enjoy.
Kani Salad
- 1 package of crab meat (I use imitation crab meat due to dietary restrictions with respect to shell fish)
https://www.heb.com/product-detail/dyna-sea-imitation-crabmeat-sticks/752779
- 1 to 1.5 English cucumbers
- 3 to 4 tablespoons of mayonnaise
- 1 cup of Rice Krispies cereal
- 1 teaspoon of Sriracha sauce (if you prefer non-spicy, then do not use)
- white and black sesame seeds
- 1 large avocado
- Slice each strip of crab meat lengthwise into 3 or 4. Then dice widthwise.
- Dice the cucumber
- Combine the crab meat and cucumber in a large bowl
- Add the mayonnaise and Sriracha sauce
- Once all of the above are mixed, add almost the complete cup of Rice Krispies. Leave some for later. Mix thoroughly
- Once mixed, place in a large lasagna tray and sprinkle the sesame seeds all over.
- Cut the avocado into 8 to 10 slices and lay on top of the sesame seeds
- Sprinkle the rest of the Rice Krispies and some more sesame seeds all over.
- Keep cool/refrigerated until served.
To try and keep the Rice Krispies crisp and not soggy, make the salad as close to serving time as possible.
This recipe is a hit.
Not messy.
Can be served anywhere...
- whether it is served on the go as a complete quick meal; or
- at a nice elaborate/elegant dinner as an appetizer.
Enabling flexibility with respect to working location can be daunting and challenging. But once the process has been established and communication is fluid, working remotely should not hamper an organization's ability to remain compliant.
Kani salad can be served anywhere.
Work can also be initiated efficiently and cost effectively from a remote location and still have the same high level output and accuracy.
We hope to be able to get back to seeing colleagues, team members and associates in the near future. But until then, working from a remote location seems to continue to enable the proper supply chain compliance that an organization requires.
Thank you to Samuel Dergel for the insights and recipe.
